5K A Day Challenge Raises over £21,000 for MYMY

OVER 200 people from across the world took part in a special 5K a day fundraiser back in January.
The month-long initiative was spearheaded by Bryansford woman, Mairead McKibben, in memory of her best friend Ellen Finnegan, who sadly died in a house fire in Castlewellan on 16 January 2016.
A fantastic £21,400 was raised during the fitness fundraiser for Newcastle-based mental health charity Mind Your Mate & Yourself (MYMY). Mairead told the Mourne Observer that she wanted to raise awareness of how grief can affect anyone at any time, and that it is important to seek the help and support you need.

Ray Cunningham, Director of MYMY, said the local charity is very grateful for the wonderful support which so many people gave to Mairead’s fundraising initiative.

“Thank you to every one of you who donated, shared on their socials or took part in the 5k a day challenge,” Ray added. “To say we are delighted is an understatement. All the proceeds will provide vital support in our local community.”
