On a dry and mild Saturday 4th May, over 90 people came together in Donard Park to walk to the quarry on Thomas’s mountain to welcome the sunrise and a new spring day. The walk was organised by local man Eamon McCrickard who wanted to offer support to anyone experiencing poor mental health. “Sometimes life can seem dark but this walk was to remind people that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It was great to see so many people getting up early to walk the mountain and talk to each other.”

Deborah Boden, CEO of MYMY and the Chair of Newcastle Suicide Prevention Taskforce said, “It was great to work with Eamon, CDRCN and MMRT on the dawn walk. Getting out in nature is so good for our mental health and it was a fantastic experience to literally walk out of the darkness into the light. The walk was about encouraging people to keep talking whether it is to family, friends or to MYMY.”
